At this year's North American International Auto Show in Detroit (January 8-22, 2017) debut two new models of Subaru, the WRX and its high-performance variant WRX STi. Through the facelift, the two compact sporting gyms of the Japanese manufacturer became more dynamic and powerful. But is the update at the expense of comfort and security?
More comfort and new technology in the interior
In the interior, the passengers of the first row will be able to sit on electrically adjustable Recaro sports seats, while an armrest with an integrated cup holder is located in the rear. In addition, thicker side windows, revised door seals and modifications to the windshield. Measures designed to help reduce the noise entering the vehicle to a minimum. Technical improvements? On board are an infotainment system of the latest generation, a lot of assistance systems, which Subaru under the umbrella "Eyesight" summarizes, as well as a head-up display.
Engine, drive, brakes
In the normal WRX (which unfortunately is not offered in Germany) is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder box engine with turbocharging and 272 hp. It can be coupled with a manual six-speed transmission or a CVT gearbox. The top-of-the-line 2.5-liter turboboxer is available, which in the new version releases 309 hp for the US market. The manual transmission is mandatory. The power is transmitted to all four wheels via the symmetrical all-wheel drive, which is typical for Subaru. The DCCD ("Driver's Control Center Differential System"), a mid-range differential with limited slip, which variably distributes the drive moments on the front and rear axles, uses an electronic control instead of the electromechanical version of the predecessor. The WRX STi is delayed with a braking system from Brembo, which consists of perforated discs and a six-piston monoblock forceps at the front and a two-piston forceps at the rear.
Optical changes
Optical changes? Subaru sharpened the front part. The radiator grill has been reworked and now has larger lower air intakes. The LED headlights have also been modernized and now feature curved light. The WRX stands on new 18-inch wheels, the WRX STi parks on stylish 19-inch rims. Otherwise everything remains the same and the great design elements like the cap on the hood and the large wing on the trunk lid (at the STi).
Martial guidance
The US launch of the two models will take place shortly. The refreshing top model Subaru WRX STi is expected to roll in the late summer 2017 then also on the German market. However, the exact specifications and prices for the Europe variant will be announced at a later date. Currently the STi herezulande 300 hp and costs at least 41,550 euro.
